Crimes Involving Moral Turpitude

Crimes Involving Moral Turpitude

“Crimes involving moral turpitude” or “CIMTs” are a large category of crimes in immigration law, and in other areas of the law as well.  This category includes ALL theft crimes, all drug crimes, all crimes involving fraud, all crimes involving sexual assault, and all domestic violence convictions which may have involved extreme violence or sexual violence.  If a person has TWO convictions for this type of offense on his or her record, he or she can lose her permanent resident (or other) status, and may be deported.  In certain circumstances, a single conviction for a crime involving moral turpitude could result in deportation.  Such convictions also make release on bond much more difficult.

Lessons from the Past

No person was ever honored for what he received. Honor has been the reward for what he gave.
